Nicki Cometa


Nicki is the chief financial officer for Affirmed Housing, an affordable housing developer, overseeing all finance and accounting. Nicki has a wealth of senior financial management experience having worked over 25 years in the construction and homebuilding industry. She attended San Diego State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. Nicki is currently also serving as a board member for the San Diego Housing Federation as well as serving as a board member at her church. Nicki also co-founded the non-profit, Love Your Lunchbox, which served low income communities by offering health and nutrition education and cooking classes (via the e.a.t. program).


James Laverty


James leads the Real Estate Practice Group for Marsh & McLennan Agency. James has over 25 years of experience providing risk management services to real estate clients across all asset classes including office, industrial and retail, multifamily, affordable housing and homebuilding. James earned his bachelor’s in business economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is a board member for the San Diego Chapter of NAIOP and servers as a liaison to its developing leader program. He also serves as a Real Estate Committee member of the USD Burnham Moores Center for Real Estate. James lives in Solana Beach with his wife Kristina and their two children.


Claire Woolley

Board Member

With over 20 years of experience in supporting roles. Claire has extensive multi sector international background spanning from startup businesses to global medical device companies. Claire is a creative and innovative individual. After graduating from Esthetician collage in 2000, Claire developed and demonstrated entrepreneurial skills of building a small business, managing finances, sales and marketing in a niche market. Claire then went on to working for Virgin Atlantic Airways offering treatments onboard the aircraft in upper class cabin. Most recently supporting the President of SaaS at a global medical device company, as well as 4 VPs. Originally from England, Claire has been local to San Diego since 2012 and enjoys hiking, nature and horse riding.


Denise Gomez


Denise Gomez, MD is the Associate Medical Director of Adult Medicine at North County Health Services. With over 20 years in the medical field, Denise graduated from UCSF School of Pharmacy Medical and UCI College of Medicine Internal Medicine Residency. An avid volunteer, Denise served the HIV branch of County of San Diego Health and Human Services for seven years and is currently assisting, "Getting to Zero" program; Campaign to reach zero new HIV transmissions County of San Diego Health and Human Services. A local resident, Denise is passionate about community health, preventative care and working with patients who have difficulty with access to care.

Board Member

Waheed is the Vice President at Banner Bank as the Affordable Housing Department in California. Waheed has over 27 years of experience providing financing both construction, permanent, land and acquisition loans to Affordable Housing Developers in California. Waheed earned his bachelor’s in public administration/city planning from San Diego State University. He is a board member for LISC and credit officer at CDFI Clearing House. Waheed lives in Del Cerro with his his two daughter Layla, Malina and is son Sebastian. Waheed enjoys running, and hiking. In 1990, he ran the Sacramento International Marathon in Sacramento, CA. He covered the marathon distance in 2:28:46 and finished in 22nd place, which is recognized by the International Association of Athletics Federation as holding the Afghan national record.



Katelyn Silverwood

Executive Director

Katelyn Silverwood is a founding member of Compass for affordable housing. A graduate of Santa Clara University with a degree in marketing, Katelyn has grown Compass exponentially and currently serves 5,000+ residents of affordable housing. As Executive Director of Compass, Katelyn is in charge of day to day operations including overseeing delivery of all services, management of all funding, coordination of consultants and grant applications. Previously Katelyn has served on the board of the Building Industry of San Diego, Ygen and has served on various committees of the San Diego Housing Federation. A San Diego resident, Katelyn enjoys her work with Compass and helping to educate those of low-income on important topics including health and finance.
